Year of Establishment:  UG-1981

VISION :

               The department envisions to gives the young women an insight into thepractical,scientific, economic, social aspects of running a home and also mindset to work out solutions to problems encountered in the lives. The departmentaims to train the students to meet the needs of rural and urban families ascontributors to food production, environment conservation and enhancement ofhuman resources.

·        Todevelop the Human Resource in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics, Foodscience, Extension Education, Textiles and laundry Science, Child development,Family resource management and Community nutrition.

·        Todevelop the department a Center of Excellence in the field of HomeScience. 

MISSION :

               The mission of Home Science department is empowerment of Woman and girlstudents of rural and urban households through learning of the house holdmanagement skills like Family Resources Management] Child Care, low Cost DietPreparation, Diet Planning and Flower Decoration, Vocational Skills andInterior Decoration.

Department's Strength

v  6 courses, out of which 3 have practical are running, two each cout of which one has practical in first, second and third year, cover’s almost all important areas of home science.

v  Under scarce resources practical are conducted, which needs to be father strengthening .

v  Students are very much anxious  to devote more time in practical, which ultimately lead there orientation towards skill, personality and entrepreneurship development. It ultimate helped tham in creative jobs for themselves and others. Such areas are home nutrient home decorators, flower decorators and event managers, diet planners etc. Maintaining personal and family hygiene is an important aspects of home science which is of prim concern is this corona-period.

Department's weakness

v  Almost cent percent girls are opting this subject, boys are rare. However if boys are also convinced to take up this course, social scenario and family scenario could be changed dramatically.

v  The syllabus needs to be restructured/strengthened to cover more on practical’s emphasis on skill and entrepreneurship development, that leads to make them job creator.

v   Courses on personality development, event management, e-working, home decorators needs to be introduced looking to the market driver approach.

v  Scarce budget convert serve the purpose. Move resources needs to be diverted for hands on training.  

Departmental Opportunities

v  Good opportunities are waiting for home makers particularly home decorators, diet planners, Hewerdecorators, e-marketers, stitehers, embroiders, alleviators of mad nutrition and specialized diseases, personal and family hygiene’s. It has much more relevance in today’s corona period.

v  Home scientists has good prospects to serve in social welfare programmer such as Aaganwadi, eradication of mal nutrition, supplement/balance diet, family planning, etc. Besids boutique, jhoolaghar, home industries are the potential areas.

Departmental Challenges

v  Education is our future investment. Keeping this is view more resources and budget needs to be diverted to make good home makers in order to address the challenger of creating jobs by imparting skill, personality and entrepreneurship development.

v  .Relevance of time tested new courses such as event management, e-marketing, value added products, home and roof top gardening, home/domestic industries etc. Needs to be introduced under home science department, in order to make the students job creators instead of job seekers.

v  More practical aspects, hands-on-training, earning while learning, frequent visits of students to home industries, acquaintance with prevalent market dynamics needs to covered in present syllabus.
